Bill Sherman gripped the Sword of Seraphim, uncertain what he’d do with power it granted him.
Could he really rule Purgatory? He cut the air with blade at least the mighty sword would come in handy if he had to smite a legion or two of dark forces.
Suddenly, the sword shook in his hand. Burning pain scared up his arm and he was forced to loosen his grip. Stunned, he could only watch as the sword flew off into the darkness.
He squinted. There was something out there. Vague movements rippled in the shadows, eventually taking on a strange dark shape.
A mighty creature stepped forth from the blackness. An angel. One of Ramiel’s breed. But mutilated, horribly.
Bloody stumps stood out from the straining muscles of its back. Its wings had been cut away…
The angel spoke his name: Samael. Laughing, he told Bill that the mighty Sword of Seraphim was and forever would be his.
Bill’s brief reign over Purgatory was but a sham. When the sword slew Ramiel, all his vast power had been transferred to Samael.
Though the filthy half-blod had taken his angel’s wings, Samael was determined that he would now take Hell’s throne.
Still laughing, the angel cast a spell on Bill. Pain tore his mind to shreds. He awoke in a place of suffering and despair made manifest.
He clung to one goal: to stop Sammael!

Already officialy known the publisher of the game Painkiller: Recurring Evil is Nordic Games GmbH, what isn’t a surprise, because the labels JoWooD and DreamCatcher are relaunched under the Nordic Games GmbH brand. On the Nordic Games forum was published a short information about Recurring Evil. An official release date is still not announced.

ANNOmaniac (Community Leader) about the game:

Battle never ceases in the realm known as Hell. This time around it’s a battle for the freedom of your very own soul. Can you make the escape from your prison hidden on the bottom pit of Hell? Do you have the guts to travel through the most dangerous, twisted, and mind-boggling areas which are infamous for being feared even by demons themselves? You better be prepared to significantly downsize (read: annihilate) the demonic population in this corner of Hell.
Once again, you’ll have a chance to absorb the magnificent, dark atmosphere of the good (or evil?) Painkiller, the only true oldschool First Person Shooter makes its return. Tough as 25 year old beef jerky, absolutely no signs of remorse, and without any touch of motion blur or other technological makeup… Just Painkiller, nothing else!

5 new levels with stunning locations like an Angkor temple, a massive old warehouse, and a highway with a huge pile-up of cars, a monastery, and a cemetery.

This new campaign guarantees for 5+ hours of new and genuine Painkiller action

Genuine Painkiller action includes, but is not limited to:

A Sh*t load of demons to “deal with”

No Autoheal, you got to earn your healing the hard way

Save your game progress at any time (i.e. no checkpoint wanderings), or without any checkpoints at all, choose your difficulty setting wisely

Even more bloodshed and action per square meter: immerse into freaking intense gameplay & ultimately challenging FPS action

More dense maps and sick enemies than ever before: kill over 6.000 uniquely spawned wicked monsters

Continue the story of good old Bill Sherman (Daniel Garner, should you ask, is currently busy)

Improved graphics, AI, environments, as well as new atmospheric soundtrack

v1c7r1x has written a small tool to fix Painkillers “turbospeed” problems in an automated way. It runs in the background and waits until Painkiller starts, then automatically sets it CPU affinity to CPU #1.

Requirements

.NET is required, probably 4.0; lower versions may work but this hasn’t been tested.

Usage
For a simple test, start PkCPUEnforcer.exe, then Painkiller. The output window should indicate that Painkiller was detected and that the CPU affinity has been set. You can verify that with checking the CPU affinity in TaskManager.

Automating the startup
When you checked it works, you can make a permanent background install. Download Hidden Start, extract hstart.exe to PkCPUEnforcers directory, and then create a link to HStart_PkCPUEnforcer.bat in your AutoStart in the Start Menu. This will make sure PkCPUEnforcer runs each time you boot/logon.

Bugs
Currently there are no known bugs, but v1c7r1x suspects that there may be permission problems on some machines. Please provide feedback if you run into any problems. Post here or write mail to v1c7r1x@hotCOLDmail.com (remove the COLD first, though).
